About me.
I grew up in a small town about a half hour north of Albany, N.Y. My parents still live in that area. I attended the University of Rochester, where I first learned the joy of watching the sun rise after pulling countless all-nighters as a copy editor for the Campus Times.
After college, I spent a year in Philadelphia, working as a research assistant in a language development lab at the University of Pennsylvania's Institute for Research in Cognitive Science. I then moved to Pittsburgh for a year and worked with children with autism as a therapeutic staff support membert at Pressley Ridge. Although my mom is an elementary school teacher and I grew up helping out in her classroom, I never fully appreciated how exhausting it was to work in the classroom setting until I spent the year shadowing one of my clients in his kindergarten class! I then attended graduate school in Human Development and Family Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. After graduation, I moved to Greensboro, NC, where I am now an associate professor in Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro.
My partner, Mike, and I have two shih tzus: Buster and Harrison. The picture on the left below shows Buster eating a burned bagel that he had pulled out of the trash. Yes, he did finish the entire thing, even though the bagel was almost as big as his head! And yes, both dogs are quite spoiled. The picture on the right shows Harrison chewing on one of his favorite toys.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, traveling, and outdoor photography. The images throughout this website are ones that either my husband or I took (until recently, we shared a camera, so we don't always remember who took which photos!)
